This is a tale of perception.
Once upon a time, in a quiet village nestled between rolling hills, lived a wise old man known for his deep understanding of life. People from near and far would come to him for advice, seeking his wisdom on everything from small worries to big decisions.
One day, a man arrived in the village, eager to start a new chapter in his life. He approached the wise elder and asked, “I’m thinking of moving to this town. What’s it like here?”
The elder, with a twinkle in his eye, replied, “Well, that depends. Tell me, what was your old town like?”
The man frowned and shook his head. “It was terrible. Everyone there was mean, always gossiping and tearing each other down. I couldn’t stand it.”
The wise man nodded thoughtfully and said, “I see. Well, I’m afraid you’ll find this town is much the same. Perhaps it’s not the right place for you.”
A few days later, another traveller came to the village, also thinking of settling down. He found the wise elder and asked, “I’m considering moving to this town. What’s it like here?”
The wise man asked him the same question, “Before I answer, tell me, what was your old town like?”
With a warm smile, the traveller said, “Oh, it was wonderful! The people were kind, always ready to lend a hand. I was happy there, but I want to see more of the world.”
The wise elder smiled back and said, “You’ll find this town much the same. I think you’ll be very happy here.”
And so, the first man continued his search, never finding a place that felt right, while the second man settled into the village, finding the same warmth and friendliness he had known before. For the wise old man knew a simple truth: what we see in the world is often a reflection of what we carry in our hearts.
